Natalia Kostaki is a Greek-Russian contemporary artist. She lives in Athens and is best known for her vivid, brightly –hued paintings that invite a broader understanding of symbolic paintings. She has developed her own unique visual aesthetic. Melding iconography, design, art-historical and mythological motifs, as well as personal experience, Natalia creates densely patterned works. Utilizing geometric shapes and colourful graphics, the artist achieves optically compelling visual effects.
The spectator has one desire when looking at a painting that is carrying a title ‘Lovers” – the lovers should be in harmony, intertwined, one heart and one soul. They need a story that connects their lives and beings. Any love couple in literature is striving for the same – unity. The intertwining in this painting is more than palpable, it is the essence of the painting. These lovers are two bodies that have metamorphosed into one organism, leaving only two distinct minds to communicate, and two faces, to smile at each other.
