About the artwork
The main ability presented in Caterina Marouda’s work is that they have an authority of objective and unhindered performance. Being a color expert, as the Venetian artists of renaissance, Caterina Marouda uses it in order to create the third dimension and to enhance the subject with the use of adversative colors. The intense use of colors is balanced accomplishes to address both the human sentiment and reason.
Odalisque. Seated on a divan surrounded by blossoms and immersed into sensual light the odalisque serves no one but her own enjoyment of life and her beauty. If she was a chambermaid who is expected to serve and be pleasant day after day, it does not play a role once she remains alone with herself. Alone with herself, she indulges into a celebration of senses, embracing her youth, her beauty, the silkiness of hair and skin, her luscious mouth that will kiss only who she chooses, and the voluptuous magic of flowers.
