Description

About the artwork

The main ability presented in Caterina Marouda’s work  is that they have an authority of objective and unhindered performance. Being a color expert, as the Venetian artists of renaissance, Caterina Marouda uses it in order to create the third dimension and to enhance the subject with the use of adversative colors. The intense  use of colors is balanced accomplishes to address both the human sentiment and reason.

Traces. What can differentiate me from myself – and why should I be separated from myself? Hiatus is a pause or break – an often necessary gap in continuity in a sequence or activity. The trace on the other hand, is a minimal repeatability.  When I look in the mirror, for example, it is necessary that I am ‘distanced’ or ‘spaced’ from the mirror. I must be distanced from myself so that I am able to be both seer and seen. The space between, however, remains obstinately invisible. Remaining invisible, the space gouges out the eye, blinds it. I see myself over there in the mirror and yet, that self over there is other than me; so, I am not able to see myself as such. Jacques Derrida says that this ‘spacing’ or blindness is essentially necessary for all forms of auto-affection, even tactile auto-affection which seems to be immediate.
