MaLou Art Consulting & Gallery is pleased to present the online solo exhibition ‘’Inner Aspects of Konstantinos Michalos or Praise to the Paradox‘’ by Greek Artist Konstantinos Michalos. Duration:  From 20th of May till  20th of June 2020.

Kostas Michalos belongs to a new artist generation, where personal expression prevails over a stylistic proposition, and thus his artwork is more empirical than depicting a certain technique. He expresses through his paintings his psychological drives as well as his philosophical, spiritual and social concepts.

His art is deeply person centered even in its most abstract form, and traces of human presence are evident in all of his works, either in the form of abstract elements or as symbolic correlations.

According to Klee’s statement: Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible; K. Michalos’ painting constitutes an intrusive look in his internal obsessions, where by retracting them , they transform into images;  these images are then processed and formed into art signals or symbols, according to the concepts in the artist’s mind.

Sensitively strong, exposed, divested like a reptile which lost its skin, but aristocratically dressed in his paradox expressionism, Michalos observes new psychic aspects which reflect in the traces of his painting actions. The Ocean and the Earth utopically mingled… Assimilated areas of the visual arts as “Down – Up” and “Rear- Front”… Elongated sensitive environment… There are no borders anywhere in this expansionist paradoxical expressionism, without blatant colors but with enigmatic purples and blacks, deep reds and blues. Dynamic gestures, even though they have grace and finesse… Restrained explosive pictures… Incessantly, the Space-Time of the Paradox caters for Reality with vibrant poetical-supernatural frequencies. There, where the dimensions expand and the distances associate with each other, unprecedented perspectives are designed with unlike shapes creating new forms.

Through their works, the creative idiosyncrasies uncover, reformulate and perhaps understand more the puzzle of their Being. Art enunciates symbolic meanings with the sound of an inner voice whose tones precede the describing words. There what is “meant” is identified with color senses and composing pulses. In this way does the echo of the mysterious psychism of Konstantinos Michalos nest in the optical phrases of his fascinating painting, offering “words of confession” to engrossed eyes.

Because, if for several creators the main issue of Art is equivalent to the revelation- release of personal visions for the Others to see (while they continue their pursuit beyond these), some, like Michalos admittedly, find their artistic voyage an incomparable opportunity for self-knowledge.

Parallel meanings “obtain Truth” when a visual arts research is literally connected to the study of the soul. How did the figure that inhibited in the long-standing works of Michalos, progressively dematerialize until its full integration with the scenery, in subsequent works? Of which existential and plastic evolution was the placid indicator? And which was the greediest entity? The unbeatable scenery which digested the innocent figure? Or the proud human figure who in its comfort stretched out everywhere until it transformed its every cell? Who became the other? Nobody. Michalos presents us the result of a total osmosis. The body became Earth. The Elements, parts of the body. And the figure- superior – touched the Beyond of its anthropomorphic sheath, simultaneously endowing a face to the reborn scenery. A face whose mental-universal mien is in charismatic harmony with its “structured” and rational characteristics. The disarming face of the Art of Paradox. And here it shows us its “best profile”: the most expressive instinct, the creative passion, the vital need to exceed the limits, but also accompanied by the reticent Logic – a Lady “with manners”, slightly controlling, but a well-intentioned friend for the avoidance of loss in intricate psychic labyrinths. Michalos generously endowsform and food to our confused contradictions, while he himself is fed through an emotional art of painting, embraced, “in love” with the Standards that it retains without pressurizing, consults without bringing to earth and protects from the immature exaggeration.

Paradoxically, the figure returns sharply in the recent works of Michalos, surrounded by a transparent cube, which without limiting her, fortifies her as a moral support, charging her with power and sound conscience, in view of her next escape to the land of “where and who I am”. Waiting patiently for this redemptive call, she moves, stretches, rises in her cube-cocoon. Paradoxically, in and out of it. Ubiquitous. Paradoxically, with a gold background at the bottom of a structure, where she bears impetus from to shoot up high towards another light. Paradoxically, a “warm-cool” light in which intermediary hues slip. And that human flesh, red like blood, but not that scratched, but very lively and daring, without a skin-shield which would confuse its affective sense… Imperceptibly, the creative adventure thrust its protagonist to the wide-open field of retrieved optimism.

Times pass, time flies… Having come out, at the end of time, from the dense forest of psycho synthetic turbulence, what will we have solved as for the multifarious intellectual being that we imperfectly and with some egoism represent? When we are liberated like Konstantinos Michalos and are alone on the highways of our mental rainbow, we will search for a bench-conclusion to summarize our personal color chart, what harmonic balances will we have succeeded? One is for sure. On the longwinded road to know thyself, more humble and wise, we will set our eyes upon the glaring radiance of the Paradox par excellence: one must lose oneself completely to be found again.

Educational activities

1995-2000 Teacher and collaborator in the program “MELINA –Education and culture of the Ministry of Culture”.

A lecturer in local and pan-European conferences for the projection and promotion of the teaching of art in education.

At the same time, he has organized and taught at many art laboratories and has publicized educational programs and activities on the subject of art at school age.

1995 till now.  A basic collaborator  and art teacher in the Art Laboratory of Chalkida.

2007 -2012      A.C.T.O. Teacher of applications in decorative art.

2014 till now.  Teacher of the history of art and visual arts at the Art and Psychology Center in Athens.
